Mae Salong is a small town perched on the side of a mountain in Northern Thailand. The area is sometimes called the “Tuscany” of Thailand because of the rolling fields of Oolong Tea Plantations.
Each morning the surrounding mountains are shrouded in mist, turning a deep blue and purple as the sun slowly makes it’s way above the horizon.
On our first morning there, I woke just before dawn and stepped out onto our balcony to capture this photo. As the sky went from black to purple, the town of Mae Salong began to awaken. First, there was the sound of a few dozen roosters crowing. Then the echo of the morning monk chant over a loud speaker from a far off temple. Followed by the sound of a farmer’s scythe at work on the hillside below. And finally, Thai music played on full blast over a loudspeaker for the entire valley to hear. The Thai music was interrupted every 3rd song or so to play “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa. So random!
